Regulatory Legal Counsel

About the role

Spiko, a fintech providing cash management infrastructure for SMEs, non-profits, financial advisers and fintechs, is scaling fast with new products, new countries and new regulatory frameworks. It needs a Regulatory Counsel to own the groundwork behind this growth, reporting to the Head of Legal & Compliance and joining as one of the early members of the legal team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead license applications, including extensions of the existing MiFID investment firm license or a free-standing MiCA license, and act as main contact with regulators and external counsel
• Handle passporting notifications for cross-border distribution in the EU/EEA and ensure legal compliance in host countries
• Work with the Compliance team on regulatory compliance: drafting and updating operational procedures, maintaining registers, auditing counterparties and filing regulatory reports
• Support the Head of Legal with non-recurring matters such as new product analysis, legal documentation updates, corporate law, litigation and non-core commercial agreements

Required profile

• Degree from a law university or business school, ideally in banking and financial law
• At least 4 years of experience in a fintech legal department, a banking/financial institution or a law firm's financial regulation department
• Proven track record engaging French (and/or other EU) financial regulators on license applications
• Native French with excellent written skills and professional English
• Ambitious mindset and willingness to manage legal and regulatory compliance across several jurisdictions and frameworks

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of MiFID/MiFIR, MiCA and anti-money laundering regulations
• Nice to have: UCITS/AIFMD/PRIIPS, DORA and GDPR experience, and experience in a fast-growing fintech start-up
