Substitute Teacher

About the role

The substitute teacher will take over for full‑time teachers or assistants when they are absent, following the established lesson plans and ensuring a safe, productive classroom environment for students.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain schedule availability to accept opportunities that arise
• Uphold an orderly classroom environment and provide a positive learning experience
• Familiarize yourself with emergency protocols, such as fire drills and lockdowns
• Carry out lesson plan instructions from the classroom teacher
• Take attendance according to school procedure
• Create and maintain discipline and classroom control in accordance with school policies
• Complete a report form for the teacher covering absences, progress, and observations
• Oversee students outside of the classroom, including hallways, cafeteria, and playground
• Ensure classroom and work stations are kept clean and orderly

Required profile

• High School Diploma
• Ability to pass federal criminal background checks covering the past 10 years
• Mandated reporter status under Louisiana law
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
