Senior Machine Learning Engineer – Embedded AI

About the role

Join Pennylane’s Embedded AI team to design and ship machine‑learning systems that power document understanding, extraction, classification, matching, ranking and recommendation features. You will work on the Copilot and Autopilot experiences, turning complex accounting problems into trusted AI products used daily by millions of entrepreneurs.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy ML models for document AI, classification, ranking and recommendation.
• Own the full product lifecycle: problem framing, data strategy, training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring and maintenance.
• Convert user corrections and production failures into improved datasets, models and product behavior.
• Define and track quality metrics such as precision, recall, automation coverage, latency and cost.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers and accounting experts to integrate ML naturally into user workflows.
• Select the most appropriate approach for each problem—deterministic logic, classical ML, deep learning or generative AI.
• Improve shared ML engineering practices, including reusable components, observability and reliable pipelines.
• Stay up‑to‑date with emerging techniques like multimodal and generative models and apply them when they add measurable value.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of professional experience and strong proficiency in Python.
• Hands‑on experience building and operating production‑grade machine‑learning systems at scale.
• Ability to frame ambiguous product problems, establish baselines and select meaningful evaluation metrics.
• Deep knowledge in at least one of: document AI, NLP, classification, ranking, recommendation, anomaly detection, deep learning or generative AI.
• Strong focus on data quality, observability, failure modes, cost and long‑term maintainability.
• Balanced technical, business and product skills with excellent communication across engineers, product managers and domain experts.
• Fluent in English; French is not required.
