Principal Software Engineer

About the role

Moody's is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to lead the strategy, architecture, development, and delivery of secure, scalable agentic AI capabilities for the Insurance Life platform. The role combines hands‑on engineering with architectural guidance and requires close collaboration across multiple global teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical architecture and roadmap for the AXIS Cloud AI orchestration layer, including tool selection, sub‑agent orchestration, decision APIs, and a governed Model Context Protocol‑based tool registry.
• Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of the AI orchestration platform, providing technical leadership while coding alongside the engineering team.
• Prototype emerging agentic AI technologies, generative user interfaces, and long‑running workflows, turning concepts into production‑ready solutions.
• Deploy, operate, and optimize AI services in Kubernetes environments, establishing observability, cost management, and guard‑rail testing.
• Collaborate with architecture, product, actuarial, security, legal, and compliance stakeholders to ensure AI solutions meet regulatory and platform strategy requirements.

Required profile

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with a proven record of delivering complex, multi‑team initiatives and setting technical direction.
• Hands‑on experience building enterprise AI applications on large language models, including agents, retrieval‑augmented generation, and evaluation frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across teams and communicate complex architecture to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Experience managing AI‑related risks, ensuring ethical governance, and fostering responsible AI adoption.
