Functional Safety for AI – Technical Lead

About the role

You will ensure AI‑based systems at NXP are safe, certifiable and ready for deployment by shaping system safety architecture and leading Safe AI innovation projects.

Key responsibilities

• Translate the Safety & AI roadmap into concrete innovation projects and own AI safety execution across projects.
• Define system safety concepts for AI‑driven features, convert AI behavior into safety requirements, and guarantee fail‑safe or fail‑operational behavior.
• Coordinate innovation projects with NPI and application teams and work with the enablement team to embed standards such as ISO 8800 into NXP processes.
• Apply model validation, robustness checks, fault injection and runtime safety mechanisms, providing feedback on gaps.
• Lead the “Safety & AI” innovation team, ensuring delivery and career development.

Required profile

• 10+ years architecting, designing and validating safety‑critical embedded systems, preferably in automotive.
• Deep knowledge of ISO‑26262 (mandatory) and familiarity with IEC 61508.
• Strong understanding of AI/ML in embedded contexts and experience bridging safety, architecture and execution teams.
• Proven track record delivering complex projects; first‑line management experience is a plus.
