Adjunct Instructional Professor of European Civilization

About the role

The University of Chicago John W. Boyer Center in Paris seeks an Adjunct Instructional Professor to teach intensive courses on European Civilization for the 2026‑27 academic year. The role involves delivering a three‑week, discussion‑based course in English, covering topics such as the Wars of Religion, Absolutism, Slavery, Imperialism, the Enlightenment, and the French Revolution.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver classroom instruction for up to 23 students.
• Design and lead excursions in and around Paris that reinforce course content.
• Develop or adapt a syllabus, coursework, and assignments aligned with the program’s learning objectives.
• Assess student performance through discussions, written work, and participation.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in History, European Studies, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated ability to teach in English at the university level.
• Legal eligibility to work in France.
• Availability for the Autumn 2026 (26 Oct‑13 Nov) and/or Winter 2027 (25 Jan‑12 Feb) teaching periods.
