Head of Engineering

About the role

Spiko, founded in 2023, provides institutional-grade cash management to businesses, non-profits, financial advisers and fintechs, issuing, operating and distributing its products itself. Its engineering team of 8 top-tier engineers will triple over the coming year. This is a hands-on leadership role reporting directly to the co-founder, based in Paris or London (office first), where you will organise the work of the tech team, review architecture and own hiring, org design, processes and delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Own engineering delivery end to end: architecture, quality, velocity and reliability of systems processing hundreds of millions of euros monthly
• Triple the team within a year: source, close and onboard top-tier engineers while keeping a high talent bar
• With the Product team, design the organisation for that scale: team structure, ownership model, incident management and security and compliance by design
• Make AI a structural advantage: set the tooling, workflows and standards that multiply every engineer's output
• Stay hands-on: code, review, make architecture calls and unblock the team on the hardest problems
• Work with the founders on technical strategy, build vs. buy and infrastructure and regulatory choices

Required profile

• A proven track record leading a team of 20+ top-tier engineers
• Experience at an A+ startup or scale-up through a phase of rapid growth
• AI-first by conviction and in practice, with evidence of how it shapes process, delivery and vision
• Hands-on: writes code, reviews PRs and goes deep on architecture
• Product-oriented mindset, comfortable leading a team that owns product decisions
• Exceptional hiring ability with a demonstrated high talent bar

Nice to have

• Fintech background or experience in another regulated, high-stakes domain (payments, banking infrastructure, trading)
• Experience building and operating financial infrastructure at scale (payments, ledgers, market connectivity)
• Familiarity with the Paris and/or London engineering talent markets

Hiring process: screening call with the co-founder, then a series of deep-dive sessions covering technical problems, the team's organisation, product vision and AI, a product discussion, a culture-fit interview with the CEO and a reference check.
