Battlefield Simulation System Engineer (m/f)

About the role

Airbus Helicopters is looking for a Battlefield Simulation System Engineer to join its Situational Awareness and Mission Management department at the Marignane site, near Marseille. The role supports the development of next-generation rotorcraft by building mission-efficacy simulations that cover air-to-air, air-to-ground and joint operations, and helps define concepts of operations and high-level requirements for helicopters and systems of systems.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate battlefield simulation activities for projects ENGRT2 (with European partners) and NGRC (demonstrating the concept design to NATO), plus other R&T projects.
• Define operational scenarios, threat environments and concepts of operation, and set up a metrics framework linking system parameters to mission effects.
• Design mission threads and system-allocated mission engineering threads in Cameo (SysML, UAF), and build baseline and alternative architectures.
• Build constructive operational simulations (e.g. VR-Forces), design analysis frameworks and sensitivity studies, and test and validate simulation components against standards.
• Produce documentation (high-level requirements, CONOPS) and train end users such as architects and project leads.
• Integrate physics models, high-fidelity terrain, weather and sensor data, and AI/ML models for friendly and adversary forces.
• Contribute to ADS initiatives (FCAS, operational analysis working groups) and link with military simulation centres and NATO modelling and simulation groups.

Required skills

• Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) with CAMEO and CGF tools (VR-Forces)
• Simulation software and geospatial data, AI and machine learning, and software development (C++, Python, LUA)
• Physics modeling, CFD, geospatial processing, and VR/augmented reality technologies
• Verification and validation processes
