Backend QA Engineer

About the role

Air Apps, a family-founded company building an AI-powered Personal & Entrepreneurial Resource Planner, is looking for a Backend QA Engineer to help ensure the reliability, performance and scalability of its backend systems. The role focuses on testing APIs, databases and backend services while working closely with engineers. It is described as a fully onsite position at the Lisbon office, with relocation support offered.

Key responsibilities

• Design and run tests for backend systems, including APIs, databases and service integrations
• Validate API functionality and performance with tools such as Postman or Swagger
• Test database operations, queries and data integrity in PostgreSQL or similar databases
• Review pull requests with engineering teams to check code quality and test coverage
• Help develop and maintain automated tests for backend services
• Review backend infrastructure and flag reliability or performance issues
• Document defects, test cases and results in tools such as TestRail
• Work with developers and product teams to improve testing strategies

Required profile

• About 2-3 years of experience with backend technologies, testing or software development in test roles
• Experience with Node.js and TypeScript in backend environments
• Comfort reviewing pull requests and backend architecture changes
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills and collaboration with cross-functional teams

Required skills

• Familiarity with SQL databases, especially PostgreSQL, and validating queries and data integrity
• Testing REST APIs with Postman, Swagger or similar tools
• Understanding of API, database and integration testing
• TestRail or similar test management tools are beneficial
