Backend Engineer (Node.js, TypeScript, Supabase)

About the role

Air Apps is looking for a Backend Software Engineer to design, build and maintain the server-side components of its applications. The role works closely with product managers, frontend developers and other cross-functional teams to deliver robust, scalable backend services. It is a fully onsite position at the company's office in Lisbon, with relocation support offered.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build RESTful or GraphQL APIs, microservices and business logic using Node.js and TypeScript
• Model data and manage queries with Supabase and PostgreSQL, including functions, row-level security and real-time features
• Deploy and manage services on Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, IAM, Pub/Sub)
• Write clean, testable code with unit, integration and end-to-end tests (e.g. Jest) and take part in code reviews
• Implement secure-by-default authentication, authorization and data protection following Clean Code and Clean Architecture
• Set up logging, monitoring and alerting, and own incident response and uptime improvements
• Take part in architecture discussions, mentor team members and document decisions and systems

Required profile

• 5+ years in backend engineering roles
• Strong experience with Supabase or equivalent PostgreSQL-based backend services
• Solid knowledge of Clean Code and Clean Architecture
• Experience with API design (REST) and cloud-native application development
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, testing tools and Git workflows
• Strong grasp of security principles, data protection and compliance best practices
• Effective communicator and proactive team contributor
