Vice President, Middle Market Direct Lending

About the role

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) is hiring a Vice President for its Middle Market (MM) Direct Lending team in Paris. The team originates and executes MM LBOs with financial sponsors, works alongside Coverage colleagues and is supported by the Leveraged Finance platform. The role assists senior team members with originating, structuring and executing Middle Market Private Equity sponsor-owned transactions focused on the French market, and helps manage the group's portfolio of MM deals.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and present client marketing and financing materials, and internal approval documents such as credit applications, screening applications and models, with other deal team members.
• Contribute to the credit decision process through rigorous due diligence and participation in committee reviews of opportunities.
• Build relationships with corporate clients, private equity funds, debt advisors and partner banks, especially on French Middle Market LBO transactions.
• Take ownership of workflows, support deal execution and assist the leveraged portfolio team in monitoring MM deals, waivers and amendments, and in spotting refinancing and ancillary opportunities.
• Support Coverage teams and other functions as needed, and build a peer network across MUFG to foster inter-departmental collaboration.

Required profile

• Degree-level education; French and English speaking.
• Experience in a banking, advisory or transactional environment.
• Good understanding of the LBO market and debt instruments, with strong transaction experience in Leverage Finance or Direct Lending.
• Experience in financial modelling (M&A, LBO and ratings), credit analysis and due diligence.
• Preferred: a relevant post-graduate qualification such as CFA or ACA.

Required skills

• Intermediate credit skills and basic knowledge of leveraged legal documentation.
• Sound understanding of deal structuring, leveraged debt capital markets and M&A dynamics.
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to manage tight deadlines, large workloads and multiple stakeholders.
