Senior Data Scientist - Pricing

About the role

Back Market is a global marketplace for refurbished devices. As part of its Bureau of Technology, you will design, build and scale AI-driven solutions within the Pricing & Quality team, which combines data scientists and backend engineers and focuses on curating offers so customers get the best value. Your focus is implementing models and algorithms to optimise fees and pricing.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement machine learning models and optimisation algorithms that power a suite of pricing levers
• Own projects end to end: from problem definition and metrics design, through data extraction and model implementation, to presenting results to business and product stakeholders
• Collaborate with data scientists and backend engineers to turn models into production-ready features
• Design and run experiments to measure the impact of fee strategies or model changes
• Use statistical analysis to find actionable insights and inform technology, business and product decisions
• Communicate your work clearly to engineering, product and business stakeholders

Required profile

• At least 5 years of industry experience as a data scientist and a Master's (or PhD) in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Economics or Engineering
• Experience delivering data science projects that had a real impact on live, customer-facing products
• Comfortable making decisions and proposing directions when the problem is not fully defined or the data is imperfect
• Strong grasp of machine learning and statistics, and practical expertise in designing and analysing experiments
• Clear communicator who can explain complex ideas to diverse audiences, including senior management
• Experience in pricing, B2C marketplaces or revenue management is a strong plus

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and SQL
• Familiarity with software engineering principles around testing, code reviews and deployment
