Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantum Information Theory of Bosonic Systems
Institut Mines-Télécom · Palaiseau
Job description
About the role
Telecom SudParis, a public engineering graduate school within the Institut Mines-Télécom, is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a fixed-term contract of 24 months in theoretical quantum information, with a focus on bosonic quantum systems. The position is based in Palaiseau, Île-de-France, with hybrid work possible.
Key responsibilities
- Research theoretical quantum information, investigating the mathematical and information-theoretic properties of bosonic quantum states and channels, especially non-Gaussian systems
- Study and prove quantum entropic inequalities involving beam splitters and other bosonic transformations, and develop new mathematical tools using quantum information, matrix and operator analysis and majorization
- Apply these results to characterize information transmission through bosonic channels, deriving capacity formulas and bounds
- Teach exercise and tutorial sessions for a quantum information course, prepare exercises and solutions, and supervise student projects and research internships
- Support PhD students and junior researchers, publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences
- Take part in departmental seminars, project meetings and scientific collaborations
Required profile
- PhD in physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering or a related field
- Research experience in theoretical quantum information, mathematical physics, quantum communication theory or theoretical quantum optics
- Experience with analytical and mathematical approaches to quantum information problems
- Strong scientific background in theoretical quantum information and excellent scientific communication and writing skills
Required skills
- Quantum mechanics and quantum information theory
- Quantum channels, quantum entropies and information-theoretic methods
- Knowledge of quantum bosonic systems
- Advantageous: majorization theory, matrix inequalities, non-Gaussian quantum information, quantum Shannon theory, and tools such as Python, Mathematica or MATLAB
What we offer
- Indicative salary of 35,400 to 38,000 euros gross per year, depending on profile and experience
- Hybrid work, on-site restaurant and cafeteria, public transport access and staff and sports associations on campus
