Postdoctoral Researcher: CO2-to-Liquid Fuels Catalysts

About the role

IMT Mines Albi, a school of the Institut Mines-Télécom, offers an 11-month postdoctoral contract (CDD) in Albi, Occitanie, France. The project, funded directly by the school and involving the RAPSODEE laboratory in Albi and the Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry (LCC) in Toulouse, aims to develop multifunctional catalysts that convert CO2 and H2 into liquid fuels in a single step via a CO2-based Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. The position is open to all, with accommodations available on request.

Key responsibilities

• Review the state of the art through a literature review of recent publications on the topic.
• Synthesize and characterize bimetallic and multifunctional catalysts based on iron and/or cobalt for the direct conversion of CO2 into hydrocarbons via the Fischer-Tropsch process, investigating support modification, active phase size, shape and composition, and the balance of CO2 and hydrogen activation functions.
• Evaluate the catalysts at laboratory scale; the best performers may be tested at pilot scale.
• Turn the results into patents and disseminate them through scientific conferences and journals.

Required profile

• A doctorate obtained less than 3 years ago.
• Strong expertise in heterogeneous catalysis, particularly for CO2 conversion.
• Skills in synthesis, organization and communication.
• Willingness to travel between the two laboratories; a French category B driving licence is an asset.

What we offer

• Gross annual remuneration of €35,400.
