Installation Engineer – Semiconductor Equipment

About the role

As a Field Service Engineer (Customer Engineer) at Applied Materials, you will act as the direct liaison with customers to install, maintain and upgrade semiconductor production equipment. The role involves extensive travel across Europe (about 75% of the time) and requires strong technical expertise and customer focus.

Key responsibilities

• Perform independent installation tasks such as mechanical assembly, electrical connections and robot calibrations.
• Follow all checklists, procedures and schematics before and during work.
• Test equipment with assistance from senior engineers using diagnostic techniques.
• Respond to factory issues, communicate with engineers and join escalation conference calls.
• Participate in continuous‑improvement projects to reduce installation cycle time and cost.
• Provide accurate reporting of status, hours worked and non‑conformances.
• Adhere to Applied Materials’ security policy and quality standards.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a technical field (mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, etc.).
• Open to junior candidates with strong troubleshooting abilities.
• Project‑management skills to control installation projects within budget and timeline.
• Ability to work autonomously and communicate status reports daily.
• Good English written and verbal communication.

Required skills

• Mechanical assembly and robot calibration.
• Electrical connections and troubleshooting of mechanical/electrical issues.
• Use of diagnostic techniques and digital analytics for troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
