Head of Talent Development
backmarket · Paris
Job description
About the role
Back Market is a global marketplace for refurbished devices, with around 700 employees across Paris, Bordeaux, Barcelona, New York and Tokyo. Its Talent hub combines Talent Acquisition and Talent Development, and this role owns the development side. You will shape how 700 people grow, progress and get recognised, designing the systems rather than just running them.
Key responsibilities
- Own the Talent Development practice end to end, connecting performance, careers, skills, learning and succession into a system managers trust
- Land the redesigned People Cycle (annual review, mid-year career conversation, calibration, L6-L7 promotion committee) with retroplans, Workday configuration and a manager training wave
- Build the job and competency framework on the Career Architecture, together with Talent Acquisition and Rewards
- Lead the Workday Talent module remaster and Workday Learning deployment as business owner, working with HR Tech
- Redesign the learning offer and deliver priority programmes for managers and teams
- Manage and grow a team of 2 to 3 FTE, set the roadmap and defend headcount
- Co-own the Talent hub roadmap with the Head of Talent Acquisition and represent Talent Development in the People leadership team and with the Executive Committee
Required profile
- 10+ years in talent management, talent development or learning, with a track record of building performance cycles and competency frameworks in a fast-growing international company
- Experience managing and growing a team of talent or learning professionals
- Ability to lead without hierarchy with People Partners, senior leaders and cross-functional partners
- Excellent English; French is a strong plus
- Nice to have: multi-country experience across Europe, the US or Asia, and a background in a scale-up or tech environment
Required skills
- Hands-on experience with a Workday Talent or Learning deployment as business owner, or an equivalent HRIS talent suite
- Learning budget ownership and build-versus-buy decisions
What we offer
- Impact-driven work in a fast-paced environment with hands-on career development
- Hybrid work: 2 remote days a week, 1 remote work week per quarter, plus 3 flex days
- Employee Resource Groups, mentorship programmes, accessibility policies and cultural competency training
The position is based in Paris or Bordeaux, France, with 3 days per week in the office. The recruitment process includes a call with the Senior Talent Acquisition Partner, a technical interview, stakeholder and leadership interviews, and a fit interview.
