Freelance Mortgage Underwriter – AI Training Projects

About the role

We are looking for experienced mortgage underwriters to join project‑based AI training initiatives. You will help evaluate and improve AI‑generated underwriting decisions for a range of loan products, working remotely on a freelance basis.

Key responsibilities

• Assess AI‑generated underwriting outcomes for conforming, jumbo, FHA, VA, and cash‑out refinance loans.
• Create test cases that calculate qualifying income for self‑employed borrowers using Schedule C, K‑1, and Schedule E.
• Draft and audit conditional approval letters and adverse‑action notices to ensure Reg B/ECOA compliance.
• Identify differences between Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac selling guide rules and lender overlays.
• Document problem statements clearly and provide verified correct answers.

Required profile

• Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Real Estate or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in mortgage underwriting, loan origination or related financial services.
• Recent hands‑on experience with underwriting and income calculations for self‑employed borrowers.
• Strong written English (C1+).
