Fixed-Term Freelance QA Engineer

About the role

Swan, a European fintech specializing in embedded banking, is looking for a fixed-term freelance QA Engineer to act as the QA reference for two product squads: KYC/Onboarding and Capital Deposit. You will join the small, experienced QA team that works with every product squad to ship reliable banking features. The role is based in Paris and temporarily remote.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the quality of releases from the KYC/Onboarding and Capital Deposit squads during the contract, while reducing automated-test debt and using AI to test faster and better.
• Learn the onboarding and capital deposit flows, their business rules and regulatory constraints, and take over QA activities in both squads.
• Analyse specifications and user stories with Product Managers and engineers, raising ambiguities, missing rules and risks early (shift left).
• Design risk-based test strategies and functional test cases (equivalence partitioning, boundary values, decision tables, state transitions).
• Run functional, exploratory and regression testing (UI and API) and validate releases.
• Automate E2E scenarios with Cucumber (Gherkin) and Playwright (TypeScript) and maintain the test suites.
• Maintain the test repository (Qase) and the requirements repository so that requirements, test cases and coverage stay accurate and traceable.
• Report and qualify bugs, follow them to resolution, and take part in root-cause analyses and post-mortems.
• Prioritize work across two squads and keep the teams informed of test status, risks and blockers.
• Use AI tools (Claude) to speed up test analysis, design and automation, critically review what the AI produces and share good practices.

Required profile

• Confirmed QA Engineer / software tester with around 4+ years of experience, ideally in an agile product team.
• Able to work with several teams at once, prioritizing and keeping everyone informed.
• Comfortable testing APIs (GraphQL or REST) and web interfaces.
• Hands-on test automation experience, preferably Playwright and/or Cucumber/Gherkin, and comfortable with TypeScript or a similar language.
• Fluent in English and French.
• Experience in banking, fintech or another regulated industry is a strong plus.
• Knowledge of ISTQB concepts and vocabulary; an ISTQB certification is a plus.
