Finance Support Consultant (UNEP)

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Finance Support Consultant to assist the Chief of Administration in strengthening financial management across the Climate Change and Industry & Economy divisions. This 12‑month contract will be based in Paris and focuses on analysis, reporting, and operational support.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct financial analysis, monitor budget implementation and expenditure trends, and prepare forecasts and management reports.
• Support the operational cost‑recovery process, including analysis, reconciliation and reporting.
• Review financial and administrative transactions for compliance with UN Delegation of Authority, Financial Regulations and related policies.
• Provide strategic financial advice through briefs, dashboards and recommendations to senior management.
• Coordinate with programme, finance, budget and administrative teams across divisions and regional offices.
• Identify financial risks, control weaknesses and propose improvements to internal controls and reporting systems.
• Assist with financial planning, budget preparation, forecasting and year‑end closure activities.
• Prepare periodic and ad‑hoc analyses, reports and documentation for audits, donor reporting and senior management requests.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree in finance, economics, accounting or a related field.
• Experience in financial analysis, budgeting and reporting, preferably within an international or multilateral organization.
• Strong understanding of UN financial regulations, Delegation of Authority and cost‑recovery mechanisms.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
