Embedded Software Engineer – DNA Data Storage

About the role

Biomemory is developing rack‑mount DNA data‑storage servers that can keep exabytes of information for over a century. As an Embedded Software Engineer you will design, implement and optimise the firmware that drives this revolutionary hardware, working side‑by‑side with biologists and hardware engineers in a fast‑moving start‑up environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop low‑level drivers and firmware for interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART and CAN.
• Implement data‑handling pipelines in Go, Rust, C/C++ and Python, using Protobuf and gRPC for communication.
• Integrate software components with laboratory workflows and ensure reliable operation in the data‑center environment.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines, containerised builds (Docker) and virtualised test environments (Qemu, Proxmox).
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot hardware‑software interactions and improve system performance.

Required profile

• Passionate about low‑level programming and hardware‑software integration.
• Comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams and adapting to rapidly changing requirements.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to document and communicate technical decisions clearly.
