Contract researcher in thermal analysis and calorimetry for batteries

About the role

The University of Technology of Compiègne (UTC) is seeking a contract researcher to develop methods for analysing heat generation in lithium‑ion and sodium‑ion batteries within the HIPOBAT project.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and characterize heat generation in sodium‑ion (and potentially lithium‑ion) batteries using calorimetric techniques such as heat flux sensors, isothermal calorimeter, and thermocouples.
• Compare results from different calorimetric methods, quantify and localise heat fluxes in real time, and evaluate thermal behaviour under low‑power and high‑power conditions.
• Develop a calorimetric technique suitable for all‑solid‑state batteries under mechanical pressure.
• Disseminate research findings through peer‑reviewed publications.

Required profile

• Doctorate in electrical engineering, thermal engineering, electrochemistry or related field, with focus on battery modelling.
• Good knowledge of physics‑based modelling and experimental skills.
• Proficiency in written English (C1‑C2); basic French is desirable.
