Collections Internship

About the role

The American Library in Paris is looking for a motivated, dynamic, and friendly person to be our Collections Intern. The role involves participating in collections projects and assisting patrons and staff at the Member Services desk.

Key responsibilities

• Assisting in the maintenance of book and periodical collections
• Cataloging books and periodicals
• Conducting inventory of collections
• Maintaining periodical archives and special book collections
• Answering reference questions and providing technical processing of magazines, newspapers, and books
• Assisting with shelving, book displays, and stack maintenance
• Creating, renewing, and revising membership accounts in multiple databases
• Familiarizing new members with library services and responding to email, phone, and in‑person queries

• Ability to work hard, prioritize and multitask in a close‑knit, busy environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Physical ability to push full book carts, shelve books on high and low shelves, and carry boxes
