Remote Web Developer (Contract)

About the role

Relay is looking for a remote contract Web Developer to build, maintain, and optimise web experiences that support client workflows on its freelancer‑matching platform. You will work closely with designers and product stakeholders to turn requirements into clean, maintainable code while ensuring performance, accessibility and security.

Key responsibilities

• Implement responsive, accessible user interfaces using modern front‑end technologies.
• Develop, integrate and maintain back‑end services and APIs.
• Ensure fast, reliable web performance and optimise for scalability.
• Collaborate with designers, product owners and other engineers through code reviews and documentation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve bugs, security issues and performance bottlenecks.
• Participate in deployment, testing and continuous‑integration workflows.

Required profile

• Strong front‑end development and web design skills, with a focus on responsive and accessible interfaces.
• Proficiency in back‑end development and programming for scalable server‑side functionality.
• Experience with end‑to‑end web development, including deployment, testing and performance optimisation.
• Ability to work independently in a remote contract setting, manage time effectively and communicate clearly with cross‑functional partners.
• Familiarity with security best practices and basic DevOps or cloud‑hosting concepts is a plus.
