Principal C++ Software Developer – Network Diagram

About the role

Esri's Paris R&D center (Cartonet) is looking for a Principal C++ Software Developer to lead the design and evolution of Network Diagram capabilities within its GIS platform. The developer works with engineers, architects, GIS experts and UX/UI partners to build interactive network and schematic visualization software supporting critical infrastructure modeling and management, such as electric and telecommunications networks.

Key responsibilities

• Drive technical design and end-to-end delivery of Network Diagram features (rules, layouts, diagram building)
• Translate customer and internal needs into clear requirements and implementable solutions
• Design and optimize algorithms (geometry/graph theory) for large, real-world network datasets
• Collaborate across C++, C#, GIS platform, architecture, UX and QA to align scope and execution
• Ensure quality through code reviews, unit and performance testing and strong edge-case handling
• Establish best practices and mentor engineers to raise engineering standards

Required profile

• 8+ years of software development experience with demonstrated technical leadership
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or a related field
• Fluent English communication
• Preferred: ability to use coding language models (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) productively, multi-threading/concurrency and performance optimization experience, utilities/telecom, GIS or network topology domain knowledge, familiarity with graph databases/graph analytics, and a Master's degree

Required skills

• Expert C++ (STL, C++17, Boost) and strong CS fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, design patterns)
• Applied math skills (geometry, graph theory) and performance-focused problem solving
• Testing (unit and performance), large codebases and Agile/Scrum
• Working knowledge of relational databases
