Freelance Optical Engineer – AI Training Projects

About the role

We are looking for an Optical Engineer to join our freelance network and help train cutting‑edge AI systems. You will create realistic, computationally intensive optics problems that mimic real research workflows, enabling AI models to be tested, evaluated, and improved.

Key responsibilities

• Design original optics problems that simulate real‑world physics research tasks.
• Ensure each problem is computationally demanding and cannot be solved manually within days or weeks.
• Develop multi‑step reasoning challenges covering mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics.
• Base problems on genuine research challenges or practical applications from optics and physics.
• Write clear problem statements and provide verified correct solutions.

Required profile

• Degree in Physics (theoretical, experimental, or computational) or a closely related field.
• At least 2 years of professional experience in applied research, teaching, or industry.
• Strong written English proficiency (C1 level or higher).

Required skills

• Numerical simulation methods
• Physics modeling and approximation techniques
• Optics problem design
• Knowledge of mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics

What we offer

• Project‑based freelance contracts with flexible hours (estimated 10‑20 h/week during active phases).
• Compensation up to $45 USD per hour, depending on expertise and contribution speed.
• Remote work – collaborate from anywhere.
