Engineering Manager, Husky

About the role

Datadog is hiring an Engineering Manager for its Husky team, a distributed, petabyte-scale columnar event store at the heart of the Event Platform powering products such as Logs, RUM, APM, Cloud Network Monitoring and Netflow. You will lead one of a few closely collaborating teams working directly on Husky's internals, owning the full lifecycle of events ingested at over 100 million per second, including persistence, compaction, columnar format tuning, deletion across hundreds of thousands of customer tables and the metadata service.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a team of software engineers from new grads to senior engineers, focusing on career development, inclusivity and high impact.
• Act as a technical leader: review architecture decisions, RFCs and pull requests so that shipped code is high quality.
• Partner with product teams to evaluate use cases, ensure smooth implementation and prioritize new platform capabilities.
• Share on-call responsibilities with the team and foster a culture of operational excellence.
• Help scale a petabyte-scale database toward exabyte scale.

Required profile

• Previous experience leading software engineering teams and a track record of delivering high-quality software products.
• Experience on-call, leading incident responses, writing post mortems and driving remediation.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with experience in career development and performance management.

Required skills

• Background in distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with Java or Go preferred.
