Engineering Manager, Applied AI/ML Product Analytics Suite

About the role

Datadog's Product Analytics suite covers Product Analytics, Session Replay, Feature Flags and Experimentation, giving product teams a complete view of how users experience their applications. Its Applied Scientists team is building AI/ML capabilities such as AI-driven event understanding, conversational analytics, automated insight reporting and UI/UX issue detection from session replays. As Engineering Manager you will lead a team of Applied Scientists through greenfield work, defining the team's technical vision and growing it.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of Applied Scientists researching, prototyping and industrializing AI/ML capabilities across the suite
• Define the technical vision and roadmap for agentic and proactive AI/ML capabilities: event understanding, conversational analytics, insight reporting and session-replay issue detection
• Stay hands-on as a technical contributor and reviewer, helping move prototypes to production-grade capabilities
• Shape how AI capabilities are built and delivered, partnering with product and engineering leadership
• Hire and onboard Applied Scientists as the company scales its investment in applied AI/ML
• Represent the team's progress and priorities to stakeholders across Product Analytics and Datadog's broader AI efforts

Required profile

• Experienced technical leader with a background in applied AI/ML, ideally with personal research or applied science experience
• People manager, early or established, backed by strong technical credibility
• Comfortable working in greenfield ambiguity and taking ML/AI capabilities from prototype to production, ideally in analytics, NLP or user-behaviour domains
• Clear communicator able to explain AI/ML concepts to product and engineering stakeholders
