Corporate Legal Counsel, France

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is hiring a Corporate Legal Counsel for its Legal, Risk & Compliance team, based in Paris. The role supports Airwallex's growth across France, Europe and beyond by giving practical, business-focused legal advice, supporting fundraising and ensuring compliance with complex financial regulations. It works closely with corporate development, compliance, risk, partnerships and marketing.

Key responsibilities

• Support the corporate development team through fundraising rounds, including due diligence, structuring and execution.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts such as referral agreements, NDAs, partnership agreements and marketing materials, with the partnerships and marketing teams.
• Advise on legal issues relating to marketing, advertising, promotions and data protection.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments in fintech so company practices stay compliant while supporting innovation.
• Manage external counsel as required, keeping costs effective and quality high.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks related to fintech products, especially data protection and cybersecurity.
• Work with product, compliance and risk teams on regulatory matters, market expansion and new products.

Required profile

• 5+ years' experience in financial services or corporate law, ideally in a fast-growing tech company or a top-tier law firm.
• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a reputable university.
• Qualified lawyer in good standing, admission to a French bar (Barreau), preferably Paris, is a plus.
• Strong interest in financial services regulation and the fintech industry.
• Deep understanding of the EMEA legal and business environment, with work experience in France preferred.
• Preferred: experience supporting fundraising, M&A or international expansion in a regulated financial services or fintech setting; knowledge of data protection, cybersecurity and technology risk management; fluency in English and French (other European languages a plus).
