Compliance Specialist

About the role

Merge is hiring a Compliance Specialist to support the compliance framework behind its regulated payments business. The role works closely with the MLRO, Legal, Product and Operations teams to ensure day‑to‑day compliance execution, including KYB/KYC reviews, AML transaction monitoring and customer support.

Key responsibilities

• Support ongoing development and maintenance of AML/CFT, sanctions and financial crime policies and procedures.
• Act as escalation point for higher‑risk KYC/KYB, EDD and transaction monitoring cases referred by frontline teams.
• Review and approve STR/SAR cases ahead of regulatory filing and liaise with regulators and law enforcement when required.
• Monitor regulatory developments (UK/EU AML regime, MiCA/CASP, Travel Rule) and translate them into practical control changes.
• Support internal and regulatory audits and respond to regulator information requests.
• Conduct reviews of KYC, transaction monitoring and sanctions screening controls and produce compliance MI for senior management and the Board/Risk Committee.

Required profile

• Experience in a compliance, financial crime or AML role within a regulated financial institution, EMI, payment institution, bank, fintech or digital‑asset business.
• Good working knowledge of UK/EU AML/CFT regulation, sanctions regimes and SAR/STR obligations.
• Experience reviewing and approving escalated KYC/KYB, EDD or transaction monitoring cases.
• Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and turn them into policy and process.
• Sound, independent, risk‑based judgement under ambiguity.
• Interest in digital assets/stablecoins and how they intersect with traditional AML frameworks.
