Chemical Engineer – Battery Active Materials (Process Scale‑up)

About the role

We are looking for a Chemical Engineer to lead the technical mastery of battery active materials and drive the industrial scale‑up of manufacturing processes for a next‑generation sodium‑ion battery startup.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure technical expertise and control of active materials (cathode, anode, electrolyte) and their manufacturing processes.
• Act as the interface between R&D teams and suppliers, translating scientific requirements into industrial specifications.
• Identify, qualify and develop international suppliers, primarily in China, South Korea and Japan.
• Manage supplier qualification cycles from sample evaluation to full‑scale production.
• Co‑develop product and process specifications and quality standards (FMEA, control plans, qualification protocols).
• Support the industrialisation and scale‑up of manufacturing processes.
• Collaborate with R&D, Production, Quality, Procurement, Supply Chain and Process Engineering to ensure product quality and supply security.

Required profile

• Master’s or Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Materials Science or related field.
• Strong expertise in active materials chemistry or development of complex industrial materials.
• Proven experience in supplier development and qualification, having completed at least one full industrial development cycle.
• Ability to translate R&D requirements into clear technical and industrial specifications.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing, industrialisation processes and quality management tools.
• Comfortable working with international partners, especially in Asia; fluent English (Mandarin a plus).
• Autonomous, rigorous and excellent interpersonal skills, thriving in fast‑growing, unstructured environments.
