Character Designer

About the role

The partner company is seeking a talented Character Designer to join a French‑based development team working on an ambitious video‑game project. The role focuses on creating gameplay‑driven characters that are tightly integrated with combat mechanics, abilities and overall player experience.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop characters that support and enhance combat systems and player interaction.
• Identify and implement engaging gameplay hooks through character abilities and mechanics.
• Collaborate with animators, gameplay programmers and designers to prototype and iterate combat features.
• Take character concepts from early ideation through full production and in‑game implementation.
• Balance weapons, abilities and character‑specific systems using player feedback and analytics.
• Support hands‑on prototyping, especially within Unreal Engine 5 workflows.
• Document design intent, mechanics and iteration updates clearly.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Character Designer on shipped titles.
• Proven track record of delivering characters from concept to release.
• Strong passion for third‑person action and combat‑focused games.
• Deep understanding of character strengths, weaknesses, counterplay and balance.
• Portfolio showcasing original, thematic, gameplay‑integrated character designs.

Required skills

• Unreal Engine 5, including Blueprint‑based prototyping.
• Experience in iterative, prototype‑driven development environments.
