Design System Designer – Build and Maintain Design System

About the role

Pennylane is looking for a Design System Designer to own and evolve "Purse", its design system used across web, mobile and tablet products. You will work closely with engineering, product designers and the Design System Manager to ensure design‑code parity and create clear, AI‑ready documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain components, patterns and tokens in Purse, ensuring consistency across platforms.
• Write and keep component documentation for designers, engineers and AI tools, covering usage rules, anatomy, variants and accessibility.
• Run design‑system audits, support product designers, and turn recurring needs into systemic improvements.
• Partner with engineering to keep design and code in sync and contribute to a production‑first workflow.

• Pragmatic problem‑solver who balances perfect solutions with "good enough" outcomes.
• Curious about emerging design‑system trends such as AI, code generation and token automation.

Required skills

• Figma
• Design tokens (semantic naming, theming, multi‑brand patterns)
• Component documentation for designers, engineers and AI agents
• Accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices
• Style Dictionary or similar token pipelines (Tokens Studio, MCP‑based pipelines)
