Legal Counsel – Maritime Litigation

About the role

We are seeking a Legal Counsel specialized in maritime litigation to join the Ships & People team within CMA CGM’s Shipping Law Department. The successful candidate will protect the Group’s interests by managing liability risks related to vessel casualties, hull and machinery damage, and crew accidents.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to operational, commercial and other internal teams on risks affecting CMA CGM SA.
• Draft and review contracts, notices, and other legal documents.
• Implement remedies and recoveries against insurers or third parties.
• Negotiate liability claims within authority granted by senior management.
• Monitor jurisprudence, case law and regulatory updates.
• Coordinate and manage legal cases together with external lawyers, bailiffs, insurers, surveyors and other stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate data, reporting and documentation throughout the case lifecycle.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate degree in Law, preferably with focus on shipping, insurance or international trade.
• Minimum five years of relevant legal experience.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with internal departments and external parties.
• High level of rigor, responsiveness and analytical ability.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard IT tools.
