System Safety Engineer – Aircraft Development

About the role

Airbus Defence and Space is seeking a System Safety Engineer to join the Aircraft Development Safety team. Based in Toulouse, you will work within a multidisciplinary environment developing advanced military aircraft and ensuring compliance with international safety and airworthiness standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead System Safety Assessment (SSA) activities across all development phases, performing systematic examinations of system functions and advanced safety analyses such as Common‑Cause, Zonal and Particular Risk analyses.
• Define and manage complex safety requirements, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and handling interfaces between interacting systems.
• Act as technical liaison for domains including maintenance, human factors, performance, structures and quality to guarantee seamless integration.
• Support certification processes by providing technical evidence, defending safety arguments before airworthiness authorities, and conducting risk analyses for Continuous Airworthiness.
• Review and approve supplier data related to safety and reliability.

Required profile

• Strong technical foundation in Aeronautical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
• Experience in system engineering with a focus on safety assessment, airworthiness or certification.
• Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple priorities and solve complex technical problems.
• Commitment to professional ethics and integrity when handling compliance risks.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
• Experience using safety analysis tools such as Isograph FaultTree+.
• In‑depth knowledge of aircraft systems and complex technical architectures.
• Familiarity with safety analysis methods (Common‑Cause Analysis, Zonal Safety Analysis, Particular Risk Analysis, etc.).
