Sustainability and Public Affairs Intern

About the role

Back Market, a global marketplace for refurbished devices, is looking for an intern to join its Impact team. The internship combines two missions: supporting the company's sustainability work and its public affairs activities. It runs from January to June 2027, full time (35 hours per week), and is based in Paris or Bordeaux.

Key responsibilities

• Sustainability (50%): support the B Corp recertification by compiling documentation, doing benchmarking research and keeping progress trackers; build responsible supplier and seller practices with sustainability databases, questionnaires and rollout plans; run internal engagement through employee initiatives, events, communications and philanthropy reporting; contribute to tech impact monitoring and ESG reporting.
• Public Affairs (50%): analyse draft bills, parliamentary debates and votes on circular economy issues at French, UK and EU level; monitor policy-making at national and EU level; map stakeholders and help write position papers; attend meetings with policymakers and industry associations; track regulations affecting refurbished electronics.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Sustainability, Public Policy, Public Affairs, Environmental Studies, Law, Political Science or a related field.
• Able to read and understand law and policy-making in France and Europe.
• Fluent in written and spoken English and French.
• Nice to have: knowledge of B Corp certification, familiarity with EU legislative processes, experience with data visualization tools.

Required skills

• Strong analytical and research abilities and good organization.
• Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets for databases and tracking.
• Ability to turn complex information into clear, actionable formats.
