Senior Consultant – International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO)

About the role

The International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) within UNEP seeks a senior consultant to provide strategic guidance and support decision‑making for its leadership. Working remotely, you will help shape IMEO’s direction in delivering reliable, actionable methane data to accelerate emissions reductions aligned with the Paris Agreement.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the Head of IMEO on strategic planning and policy development.
• Develop recommendations that strengthen IMEO’s ability to make informed, high‑impact decisions.
• Support the integration of satellite, scientific, industry, and national data streams.
• Contribute to the design of mitigation strategies for major methane sources, especially in the oil and gas sector.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in environmental studies, public administration or a related field; PhD is an asset.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in environmental science, policy analysis, or advocacy.
• Familiarity with oil and gas sector emissions and mitigation approaches.
• Proven ability to communicate scientific information to diverse audiences.
