Senior Backend Engineer – Python

About the role

We are looking for a senior backend engineer to help build the next‑generation payment infrastructure that powers Alma’s installment and deferred‑payment solutions across Europe. You will design, develop and maintain high‑performance APIs and backend services that handle billions of euros in transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable APIs and backend components using Python and related technologies.
• Ensure high quality, security and performance of the platform, meeting regulated‑finance standards.
• Shape the technical architecture in collaboration with product and tech leaders.
• Own end‑to‑end reliability, lead incident response and drive long‑term performance improvements.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in backend engineering on large‑scale systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python and relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
• Fluent French and solid English communication skills.
• Methodical problem‑solver comfortable working in cross‑functional teams.
