Regional Case Lead – Middle East & North Africa (MARS)

About the role

The consultant will support the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) in implementing the Methane Alert and Response System (MARS) across the Middle East and North Africa. The role focuses on strengthening engagement with satellite data, building capacity with government and industry partners, and advising on mitigation actions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain contacts with government bodies, national oil companies and other stakeholders in the region.
• Notify relevant parties of detected methane emission events and follow up to ensure timely response.
• Coordinate technical support from IMEO partners to address emission events.
• Collect and synthesize stakeholder feedback on notifications and mitigation efforts.
• Provide country‑specific advice on IMEO priorities such as Methane Science Studies and the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0.

Required profile

• Minimum six years of professional experience in government, industry or related fields within the Middle East and North Africa.
• Proven experience working with government officials and national oil companies on methane emissions (desirable).
• Experience with satellite‑based methane monitoring (desirable).
• Strong coordination and organisational abilities to manage multiple workstreams.
