Project Manager – Capital Projects

About the role

Hexcel, a global leader in advanced lightweight composite materials such as carbon fiber, honeycombs and engineered structures, is looking for a Project Manager to lead major capital projects in France and Germany, with possible involvement in other European projects. The position can be based in Dagneux (near Lyon) or Les Avenières (near Chambéry). The role covers the full project lifecycle, manages capital budgets and provides technical expertise so that projects are delivered safely, on time and on budget.

Key responsibilities

• Manage capital projects (up to $50M), including scoping and estimating, preparing capital expenditure requests, leading multi-functional teams, controlling cost and schedule, and coordinating affected parties
• Work with site personnel to run projects with minimal impact on existing operations
• Report project status to senior management and stakeholders, and present formally when needed
• Develop proposals or RFQs for capital investments and work with vendors and contractors to optimise system performance
• Manage procurement, including interface and negotiations with suppliers of equipment and services
• Develop technical specifications with local site teams and oversee engineering drawings, including E&PD, assembly and detailed design drawings
• Evaluate field installations, recommend design changes, and oversee commissioning and startup of new or modified equipment
• Ensure compliance with site health, safety and environmental standards

Required profile

• University or engineer degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering, with at least 10 years of experience in the field or a related area
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects and lead project engineering teams in fast-paced environments
• Industrial manufacturing experience, including developing and reading mechanical design drawings
• Knowledge of instrumentation, electrical, civil, mechanical and chemical engineering
• Ability to work within and lead multi-disciplinary teams and to perform safety analyses such as HAZOP or FMEA
• Proficiency in spoken and written English; travel up to 30% depending on project needs
