Principal Software Engineer, Frontend Experiences

About the role

Algolia is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join its Frontend Experiences team in Paris. The team builds fast, accessible libraries, components and tooling that let developers create great search and discovery experiences on the web and on mobile. The role spans the entire frontend stack, from design-system primitives to product-level architecture, and involves mentoring and leading team members.

Key responsibilities

• Define the multi-year technical vision for the front-end platform and turn it into roadmaps and projects for several teams.
• Shape the experience architecture, component strategy and technical foundations of the Algolia Dashboard, including conversational and agentic UX, and partner with engineering, product and design leadership on delivery sequencing.
• Drive convergence on a shared component library and reduce duplicated components and inconsistent patterns.
• Design and deliver scalable, highly available, performant and resilient solutions, including on pages and apps outside your control.
• Own solutions from delivery through adoption by engineering teams and customers.
• Shape API design, versioning and backward-compatibility strategy for public libraries used by a large developer community.
• Set engineering standards and best practices, and act as a technical reference for the team.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience, with a track record of setting technical direction across multiple teams.
• Proven experience leading engineers on large, cross-cutting projects and mentoring team members.
• Experience designing and maintaining public libraries, SDKs or design systems, with a feel for API ergonomics and breaking changes.
• Experience building complex, high-traffic web applications such as dashboards or admin consoles, and leading cross-team UI consolidation.
• Strong communication, organization and leadership skills.

Required skills

• Deep frontend expertise: TypeScript, modern web platform, React and other major frameworks, accessibility, bundle size and runtime performance.
• Full-stack experience, microservice architectures, APIs and backend services.
• Interest in conversational and agentic interfaces; familiarity with search UX patterns and generative AI is a plus.

What we offer

• Base salary range of EUR 108,000 to 135,000.
• A flexible workplace model with the option to work fully remote or hybrid-remote, or in office in Paris, NYC, London, Sydney or Bucharest.
