Postdoctoral Researcher in Metasurfaces and Visual Optics

About the role

IMT Atlantique, a general engineering school within the Institut Mines-Télécom group, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Metasurfaces and Visual Optics within its Optics Department. The work is part of the MSDIO project, a collaborative research programme with the ophthalmic device manufacturer Cristalens Industrie to develop a new type of intraocular lens (IOL) using metasurfaces for next-generation visual correction. The postdoc reports to Professor Vincent Nourrit and works on-site at the Brest campus.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the modelling and simulation of advanced optical correction functions (monofocal, multifocal or switchable IOLs)
• Carry out cleanroom prototyping via multiphoton photolithography
• Perform experimental characterisation of metasurfaces
• Help develop dedicated software tools
• Disseminate scientific results through publications and international conferences

Required profile

• PhD in Optics, Photonics, Physics or a related field, obtained less than 3 years before the hiring date
• Experience in optical design and/or cleanroom microfabrication; knowledge of visual perception and visual optics is desirable
• Autonomous, curious and proactive, able to work in a multidisciplinary team

Required skills

• Metasurface modelling and optical simulation (Lumerical, Planopsim, Zemax)
• Ideally photolithography
