PhD Research – Thermo‑rheology of Sludge via Ultrasonic Metrology

About the role

The Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT Nord Europe) invites applications for a 36‑month PhD contract focused on the thermo‑rheology of sludge using ultrasonic metrology. The research aims to improve energy performance and diagnose fouling in heat exchangers of wastewater treatment plants.

Key responsibilities

• Design and conduct experimental studies on sludge flow under thermophilic conditions.
• Develop and apply ultrasonic metrology techniques to measure rheological properties.
• Analyse data to characterize thermo‑rheological behaviour and identify fouling mechanisms.
• Write a doctoral thesis, publish scientific articles, and present results at conferences.
• Collaborate with the Complex Fluid Flows Laboratory and the Centre for Education, Research and Innovation in Energy and Environment (CERI EE).

Required profile

• Master’s degree in fluid mechanics, rheology, heat transfer or a related field.
• Strong interest in experimental research and wastewater treatment processes.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
