PhD Position: Post-orogenic Reactivation of Rift-Related Faults

About the role

This CIFRE PhD project investigates the post‑orogenic reactivation of rift‑related faults, focusing on tectonic evolution, structural and petrophysical description, and implications for fluid circulation. The research supports the emerging field of natural hydrogen exploration and contributes to understanding seismic hazards in mountain belts.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse present‑day seismicity distribution in selected orogens such as the Pyrenees.
• Identify and map rift‑inherited structures and assess their reactivation.
• Characterise structural and petrophysical properties of fault zones.
• Evaluate the role of these structures in deep water infiltration and serpentinisation processes.
• Collaborate with supervisors from Cergy Paris University, Sorbonne University, Frankfurt University, OMP Toulouse, and Mantle8 Grenoble.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Geosciences, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
• Strong interest in structural geology, tectonics, and fluid‑rock interactions.
• Motivation to conduct field work and laboratory analyses.
