PhD Position in Computer Science – Agent‑Based Hydro‑Social Modelling

About the role

This PhD position focuses on developing an integrated modelling framework that couples agent‑based social dynamics with a parsimonious hydrological‑hydrosedimentary model. The work will be embedded in a participatory process with stakeholders in Mayotte’s catchments.

Key responsibilities

• Co‑design and implement an agent‑based model (ABM) with local stakeholders using the Companion Modelling approach.
• Couple the ABM with a calibrated hydrological‑hydrosedimentary model for the Ourovéni and Hajangua‑Salim Bé catchments.
• Conduct retrospective simulations of past water‑crisis episodes and policy interventions.
• Run prospective scenario experiments to explore adaptation pathways under climate and societal change.
• Deliver a simulation‑based decision‑support tool for water governance.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Environmental Modelling, or a related field.
• Strong interest in interdisciplinary research linking social systems and hydrology.
• Experience working with stakeholders or in participatory research is a plus.
