Metals Global Technology & Marketing Director (W/M/D)

About the role

Air Liquide is looking for a Metals Global Technology & Marketing Director (W/M/D) for its Customer & Markets team in the LI WBL, reporting to the Metals Pole Director. The role covers steel and, to a lesser extent, non-ferrous markets worldwide, and acts as the Group's reference on the primary production processes and technologies of steel and non-ferrous customers and the industrial gases they use.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and use steel primary production process models to understand industrial gas needs for projects under development, and anticipate technological evolution in steelmaking and non-ferrous industries
• Build relationships and lead strategic discussions with technology providers, and lead strategic and operational marketing activities with the help of Market managers
• Assess site viability and P&L, understand customer gas needs and sustainability, and propose differentiated solutions
• Act as the Group's external voice in organisations such as the Association for Iron and Steel Technology and the European Steel Technology Platform, and at events
• Own the Site Competitiveness Assessments, the Metals Market Technology Roadmap, and the Market, Technology & Competitive watch, and lead some market studies
• Support Group and WBL strategic plans, bring support to clusters for prospective and business development, and help develop Regional Accounts
• Own the Metals market databases and customers' process models, coordinate with internal stakeholders (Industrial Merchant WBL, Engineering & Construction, R&D, Clusters), and deliver internal training on steel and non-ferrous technologies and markets

Required profile

• Minimum 10-15 years of experience
• Strong technical background in steel primary production processes, typically from an operational role in a steelmaking company (e.g. ironmaking manager, R&D or plant manager, operations manager)
• Knowledge of steel markets; non-ferrous knowledge is a plus
• Strong networks in the steel industry and ability to engage with senior technical representatives (CTOs, R&D directors)
• Customer orientation, active listening, humility, strategic thinking, leadership and communication skills
• Preference for a position based in Europe; other locations may be possible
