Industry Engagement Consultant – Steel Methane Programme

About the role

The Industry Engagement Consultant will support UNEP's International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) in advancing the Steel Methane Programme. You will design and execute stakeholder engagement strategies that bring together metallurgical coal producers, steel manufacturers, investors and other partners to promote transparent MRV (measurement, reporting, verification) and drive methane mitigation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a strategic stakeholder engagement and prioritisation plan for the Steel Methane Programme.
• Design and deliver outreach activities, events and digital communications to raise awareness of the Steel Methane Partnership and its MRV framework.
• Create communication products (briefs, fact‑sheets, presentations) that highlight methane transparency and mitigation opportunities.
• Engage industry, investors, governments, NGOs and international organisations to build collaborative partnerships.
• Report progress and insights to the Head of IMEO.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in energy, environment, climate policy, business, finance, international relations or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in energy, environment, climate policy, business, finance or related sectors.
• Strong understanding of methane emissions, industrial decarbonisation, metallurgical coal and steel value chains.
• Proven track record of engaging companies, investors, governments, industry associations, NGOs or international organisations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills with an existing network of relevant contacts.
