District Cooling Consultant – Remote (6 months)

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a District Cooling Consultant to support its Mitigation Branch and UNEP India Office. The consultant will help accelerate investment, knowledge sharing and adoption of district cooling systems across India, working remotely for a six‑month assignment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise to UNEP projects scaling district cooling in India.
• Support the design, advocacy and operationalisation of a District Cooling knowledge hub.
• Engage with government agencies, state bodies, public sector undertakings, cities, private players, academia and industry.
• Drive stakeholder engagement, fundraising, strategic communications and advocacy to build awareness and buy‑in.
• Collaborate with UNEP Asia‑Pacific Office, UNEP Paris office and UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre.
• Contribute to knowledge development, best‑practice dissemination and policy advisory for energy‑efficient cooling.

Required profile

• Experience in climate‑friendly cooling, energy efficiency or related environmental projects.
• Proven ability to work with multi‑stakeholder networks and international organisations.
• Strong analytical, communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to work independently from a home‑based setting.
