Deputy General Counsel

About the role

The Deputy General Counsel will join a leading renewable energy developer in Paris, providing strategic legal guidance across the full project lifecycle. This senior leadership position works closely with senior management to shape legal strategy, manage risk, and ensure compliance in multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal support throughout the development, financing, construction, and operation phases of renewable energy projects.
• Lead drafting, review, and negotiation of commercial, project, and financing agreements.
• Advise senior leadership on legal, regulatory, and contractual risks.
• Support M&A, joint‑venture, and project‑financing transactions.
• Oversee corporate governance and ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable regulations.
• Manage external counsel and coordinate cross‑border legal matters.
• Mentor and develop members of the legal team while collaborating with commercial, finance, and development functions.

Required profile

• 12–15 years of post‑qualification legal experience, including significant in‑house and/or top‑tier law firm exposure.
• Experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, or project development environments.
• Strong background in commercial contracts, project finance, and corporate transactions.
• Proven ability to support cross‑border projects and advise senior stakeholders.
• Qualified lawyer with excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Fluency in English required; French proficiency highly desirable.
