Contract researcher – Smart charging infrastructure

About the role

The Université de technologie de Compiègne (UTC) is hiring a contract researcher to develop a research program on the location of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The work will be carried out in the AVENUES laboratory (Urban Engineering Department) and will explore how charging station placement influences mobility behaviour, detours, pauses and access ergonomics.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse the impact of charging station location on travel strategies and mobility patterns.
• Study user‑accepted detours and variations across transport modes.
• Characterise charging forms, temporalities and their effects on spatial practices.
• Develop access‑ergonomics approaches and new location indicators integrating detour, pause and amenity factors.
• Process and analyse spatial and mobility data, produce scientific publications and present at conferences.

Required profile

• Doctorate (PhD) in transport geography, spatial planning, urban planning, mobility studies, spatial analysis or a related discipline.
• Experience studying mobility behaviour and transport‑territory interactions.
• Experience designing and/or conducting user surveys.
• Fluent written French (C1‑C2) and English (C1‑C2).

Required skills

• Good knowledge of GIS.
• Proficiency in spatial analysis methods.
• Ability to design and conduct user surveys.
