Chief Engineer, Data Center Engineering Operations

About the role

Amazon Web Services is seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to lead Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO). You will ensure that all mechanical, electrical, and fire‑protection systems in the data centre run at peak efficiency, supporting the 99.999% uptime required for critical AWS services.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee preventive maintenance, corrective work, and emergency response for all facility equipment.
• Act as the single technical point of reference for site Facility Manager, Engineering Operations Technicians and third‑party contractors.
• Manage low‑to‑medium impact projects from design through delivery, coordinating with engineering, automation, operations and finance teams.
• Track milestones, monitor budgets and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
• Maintain detailed documentation and reporting on equipment performance and incident resolution.

Required profile

• Proven experience in data‑center or large‑scale industrial facility engineering.
• Strong background in electrical, mechanical and fire‑protection systems.
• Ability to work independently and lead cross‑functional project teams.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and a focus on safety and reliability.
